A hair transplant moves hair follicles from a donor area to an area affected by thinning or baldness. It is hair-restoration surgery, not liposuction. The assessment, treatment plan and follow-up should be explained before you decide to proceed.
Before surgery: understand your assessment
A clinician assesses the cause of hair loss, donor hair and your expectations. Surgery is not appropriate for every person with hair loss; other treatment options may be discussed. The American Academy of Dermatology explains the role of individual assessment. Bring relevant medical records and a list of medicines, and ask what further assessment is needed.
What the procedure involves
FUE removes individual follicular units; FUT takes a strip of hair-bearing skin that is divided into grafts. Grafts are placed in the recipient area. Both methods can leave scars. Your surgeon should explain the method, anaesthesia and surgical plan recommended for you. These basic stages are described in the NHS hair transplant guide.
At Monaris, extraction and recipient-site slits are performed by Dr. Arihant Surana or the main surgeon. Confirm the operating surgeon and who handles the other stages during your consultation.
Recovery and results
Follow the operating team’s written aftercare instructions. Hair growth develops over months, and the outcome varies. Hair around the transplanted area may continue to thin. Surgery does not guarantee a particular density or eliminate the need for future hair-loss care.
Ask when you can wash your hair, return to work, exercise and travel. Confirm how follow-up will be arranged and whom to contact outside normal appointment hours.
Risks to discuss
Potential problems include bleeding, infection, reactions to anaesthesia, noticeable scarring and an unsatisfactory result. Contact your treating clinic promptly for severe pain or unexpected symptoms. Ask how complications would be assessed and managed.
Costs and practical arrangements
